How to Clean Carpet Tiles

Modular flooring was designed to offer all round flexibility, and modern carpet tiles are designed with day-to-day dirt and spillages in mind including features like dirt and stain resistance.

Unlike traditional deep pile carpets, modular flooring is designed to be really fast and simple to clean in the busiest office environments. Day to day your regular cleaning staff should get the job done easily with a good vacuum, but a little extra attention and care, especially just as spillages and accidents happen, can greatly prolong the life of your floor coverings and reduce the requirement for replacement carpet tiles.

The simple process to follow cleaning up carpet tiles day to day and especially after an accidental spillage of liquids or food is as follows;

  • Regular vacuuming for day-to-day care
  • React quickly to spills and accidents
  • Scrape up solids from edge to centre
  • Soak up excess liquid with kitchen roll or a cloth
  • Sponge clean as required
  • Lift free lay tiles and clean under a tap

Designed for practicality in busy commercial environments, modern carpet tiles are designed to resist common spills and stains and as long as you respond quickly to any accident, you can avoid having to replace the modular flooring tile entirely.

For dry spillages such as powders or make-up, the best option is often to lift the tile and bang it to clear the powder outside; adding water will only make it more difficult to wash out! If necessary a mild detergent mixed in with warm water and gently scrubbed on and off with a brush will remove more stubborn spillages, but make sure you rinse off the detergent completely afterwards or it may stain or fade the colour of the carpet tile.

If you do remove a modular floor tile during the cleaning process, make sure you allow it time to dry before replacing it to ensure a neat fit that will not affect other tiles or create a damp patch. Do not artificially dry carpet tiles on radiators or heaters, just leave them in the shade outside or in a storage room at the office out of the way and let them dry naturally.
